Christian Outreach & Emergency Sheltering (COrES)

Along with other churches in the community, The Well assists the homeless
on days and nights that can threaten life.  Severely cold weather is one
example.

Working with volunteers that "cruise" the city of Longmont and pick up the
homeless, we act as a staging ground for a warm drink and then provide beds,
or provide transport to a local church, for overnight housing.

This program allows for churches to be used on a rotating basis for a few days
or a week at a time.  Then another church becomes the "designated place of
shelter" for the next period.

Shelter is only "activated" if bad weather is forecast for the overnight period.
Some locations may be on-call and never have to open their doors to provide
shelter.  COrES aids in providing bedding and bringing together volunteers to
supervise the night hours.

This is a simple program that any faith community can operate in any city.  God
has provided the Body of Christ with resources (buildings, volunteers)  so that
we can demonstrate the love of Christ to the needy - as we are instructed to do.
Let's get creative and use these resources effectively.

If your city has a need to mitigate the risk to life during bad weather or a
city-wide emergency, you can contact us for a copy of our policies and
procedures.  We are happy to provide any assistance necessary in getting
your program started.

If you live in the Boulder/Longmont area and would like to volunteer for
helping out with Emergency Sheltering, please subscribe to this volunteer
list using the Volunteer box on the
Home page.  We will always contact you
with a request and wait for your RSVP before scheduling you.
